How To Fix An Airlock In A Hot Tub?

One of the most common tech support calls we get is “How do I fix an airlock?”, in this article we’ll go over some of the more common solutions to this problem.

Understanding What An Airlock Is

If you’ve just filled your hot tub with fresh water and now the jet pump isn’t working, there’s a good chance you have an airlock in the system somewhere. Essentially what an airlock is, is a big bubble of air that’s trapped somewhere in the pump that needs to be “burped” out, not unlike burping a baby. Until this air bubble is worked out, the pump won’t be able to move any water.

How To Fix an Airlock (Most Common Fix)

Here’s a step by step instruction list on how to clear an airlock, these instructions are pulled directly from the video above, so if you’re more of a visual learner then we suggest watching the video, its only a minute or so long.

  1. Turn GFCI breaker off
  2. Remove large diverter handle
  3. Gently unscrew diverter threaded diverter cap
  4. Wait for escaping air to stop hissing
  5. Hand tighten diverter cap
  6. Reinstall diverter handle
  7. Turn GFCI breaker back on
  8. Turn on jet pumps to purge out remaining air
  9. Enjoy your spa!

Checking The Pump (Least Common Fix)

Sometimes the above instructions don’t work to fix an airlock, if they aren’t working for you then you may need some more specialized help with the pump.
