How Do I Maintain My Hot Tub Cover?
How Do I Maintain My Hot Tub Cover?
Cleaning and Conditioning Your Hard Cover
- A soft cloth or nylon bristle brush and water from your garden hose work well for cleaning. If you decide to use soap, ensure that none of it gets in the spa water as it can introduce unwanted suds and foaming.
- You can use a pressure washer to clean the cover as long as it is a lower than 2000 psi. Higher pressures can damage the cover material.
- If your cover is a standard vinyl type, then any high quality marine grade vinyl protectant will work to keep your cover bright and protected from the elements. Apply more on stiched seams and low spots that puddle water, but don’t use it on the underside of the spa cover.
- If your cover is a the upgraded Pro-Tex fabric material type, then any high quality outdoor fabric protectant work to keep your cover waterproof and protected from the elements. Apply more on stitched seams and low spots that puddle water, but don’t use it on the underside of the spa cover.
Cleaning the Underside of Your Hard Cover
- Normally, the underside of your cover should not need cleaning, but if you notice a moldy, musty smell, or see dirt or discoloration on the surface, remove the cover from the spa, and lay out flat upside down. Use Dazzle Surface Cleanse and scrub with a stiff brush, then hose clean with fresh water.
- Don’t use household cleaning chemicals on your cover, you may add phosphates or detergents to the spa which can introduce unwanted suds and foaming.
Hard Cover Maintenance
- If the exterior of the cover gets a tear or hole its important to patch it up quickly as any water that gets inside can quickly degrade the cover. The easiest way to patch this is by unzipping the outer skin, removing the foam panel and patching from the inside with Tuck Tape.
- Any tears in the plastic vapour barrier will quickly result in a heavy cover, so they should be taped or patched immediately with Tuck Tape to keep moisture out.
- Unzip the bags and remove the foam panels if you see bowing, flip them over before you reinstall them, this keeps the water from pooling on top of your cover.
- Using a Spa Cover Cap or Cover Savers can add years of life to your spa cover.
Use A Cover Remover
Using a cover remover makes using your spa significantly easier to use, but more importantly it keep it from dragging on the ground and getting damaged. We stock 2 different kinds of cover removers below;
Mounted to the side of the hot tub using screws, the standard cover remover keeps the cover up high. 14″ of clearance is required behind the hot tub for it to work.
Mounted to the support base using the weight of the hot tub, the low mount cover remover keeps the cover down low. 20″ of clearance is required behind the hot tub for it to work.
