10-Point Pre-Purchase Checklist for Buying a Hot Tub

If you’re looking at purchasing a hot tub then you’re probably aware that there are a lot of things to consider before committing to it. We’ve made a checklist that goes over some of the most common and most important points for first time hot tub purchasers in Oxford County.

  1. Decide On A Hot Tub Or Swim Spa.

While this sounds like an obvious decision, for some people it really isn’t. In recent years there has been an influx of hot tub/swim spa hybrids, meaning they are the size of a swim spa, but have many of the features of a hot tub like more seats and better massage jets. Some of these models come close to the price of a large hot tub as well, so if you’re looking for a large hot tub, it may be worth looking at a swim spa instead.

  2. Choose A Brand.

There are many different hot tub brands available in Canada, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Finding a brand that fits your lifestyle needs is important, but you should also keep parts and service support in mind as well. We recommend looking for a brand that is made in Canada, these will be better supported than brands imported from foreign countries.

  3. Pick A Model.

Nearly every item on this list revolves around the model that you pick as each has a different price, there are different sizes, different electrical configurations, and different seating configurations.

  4. Choose A Retailer.

    Picking a retailer is one of the most important aspects of purchasing a hot tub. Some important aspects to keep in mind are;

    • Located locally to you. If you need a top up on water care products or a water sample, having a dealer that is close to you is very convenient.
    • High quality after purchase service support. If the hot tub ever needs service, having a competent service department is key to keeping the hot tub up and running.
    • Water care support and water testing services. Proper water care is important to the longevity of the hot tub, and to your comfort while using it. Water testing and a full suite of products can make otherwise tricky upkeep a breeze.
  5. Pick A Location.

Above all else, you need to have a location to put the hot tub, whether it be on a concrete pad, a deck or patio, or indoors, the location needs to be suitable to hold the weight of the hot tub and provide a relaxing environment for you when you’re using it. If you have a location in mind but not a support base, it’s a good idea to get a couple of quotes from different contractors to compare prices.

  6. Choose A Cover.

We offer 2 different options for covers, the standard bi-fold hard cover (this is included in the hot tub price), and an upgrade Covana Motorized Cover that provides superior ease of use, more security, and better weather protection. Keep in mind that these covers require an oversize concrete pad and extra electrical connection.

  7. Pick Out Accessories.

We offer a wide selection of hot tub accessories, from things like handrails and drink trays, to upgraded steps and cover removers.

  8. Secure Financing.

Just like anything else, a hot tub needs to be paid for before it can be delivered. We offer different payment options for hot tubs, whether it be financing, outright purchase, or a mixture of the two. Check out our pricing page here for a more detailed breakdown of what you might expect to spend on the entire project.

  9. Have A Clear Delivery Path.

We do not have a crane, so we need enough room to move the hot tub from your driveway into the backyard. We can turn the hot tub onto its side, so we typically only need 40” of width to get it through.

  10. Hire An Electrician.

While some hot tubs are plug & play, the majority need to have a hard-wired electrical connection. The wiring must be done by a licensed electrician, so it’s a good idea to get a couple of quotes to compare prices.
